When I joined the Business Insider Reviews team, I quickly learned that there are some products nearly all reporters and editors on this team rave about. The Casper Original Pillow is one of those "hall of fame" items that multiple team members love.
It wasn't until I tested 22 different pillows for our best pillow guide that I got a chance to try this pillow out myself, and it didn't take me long to join in on the hype. Former Business Insider Reviews reporter and self-proclaimed picky sleeper David Slotnick hit the nail on the head when he described it as the "Goldilocks pillow [that gets it] just right." Senior home editor Jaclyn Turner admires its fluffy, cloud-like support that's yet to go flat after two-plus years of constant use.
It's not too firm or too soft and hits all the elements that make for a good pillow: it's simple, comfortable, and easy to clean.
The Casper Original Pillow offers the loft and support that side sleepers need but with the soft and fluffy feel of a down alternative.
Specifics
The Casper pillow is available in two sizes: standard and king. I tested the standard version, but both pillows feature two-layer construction, which strikes a balance between firmness and softness. The inner pillow provides a foundation of firm support, while the outer pillow is soft and fluffy.
The pillow is filled with polyester microfiber and covered by cotton percale fabric, so it's hypoallergenic and stays cool throughout the night. It also has a gusset, or an extra piece of material that creates a side panel, which adds structure.
The Casper pillow is fairly lofty, which is why it's a particularly good option for side sleepers who prefer the feel of a fluffy down or down-alternative pillow over a memory foam pillow. The gusset adds support and loft that side sleepers need to bridge the gap between their shoulders and the mattress, and the removable inner pillow provides some adjustability if you find the pillow is a little too lofty.
I slept on the Casper pillow for many nights and found it really comfortable for back and side sleeping. I love that it's a bit malleable, which makes it great for scooping, folding, and hugging. The only folks I wouldn't recommend this pillow for are stomach sleepers — It's too lofty for stomach sleeping.
When you're ready to clean your pillow, both the exterior cover and interior pillow are machine washable. They can also be placed in the dryer on a low, tumble dry setting.
The Casper pillow is a great value, too. At $65 for the standard size, it's well under the price of many of our picks in our best pillows guide. Casper also offers a 1-year limited pillow warranty. If you notice manufacturing flaws with a year of normal pillow use, Casper will replace or repair your pillow at no cost. It's also important to note that, while Casper has 30-day returns for their pillows, the product must be unused and in their original packaging. So, you can't try out your pillow and send it back.
The loft of this pillow isn't adjustable, so you won't get a custom feel, nor is it offered in varying firmnesses. It's also too firm for stomach sleepers, since the high loft would interfere with neutral spinal alignment while sleeping on your stomach.
While the Casper pillow is soft and fluffy, it doesn't provide the same support as a material like memory foam. If you suffer from neck or back pain and need an ultra-supportive pillow, you'll have more luck with a memory foam pillow.
Lastly, Casper's return policy states that pillows have to be unused in order to be returned. Since there's no trial period, you won't be able to test out your pillow before deciding if you would like to keep it. If you buy this pillow, sleep on it, and find that it isn't for you, you won't be able to send it back.
For a pillow with adjustable filling, I recommend the Coop Sleep Goods Original Adjustable Pillow. You can fully customize the fill of the Coop pillow by removing or adding memory foam and microfiber. This is an especially good choice if you're a combination sleeper, since you can make the perfect feel for your sleep needs. It's also our best overall pick in our best pillows guide.
If you like a soft pillow that feels like sleeping on a cloud, then you might like a down pillow. During our testing, we found that the Brooklinen Down Pillow is the best down pillow. Brooklinen's down pillow comes in three lofts, so you'll be able to find the best firmness for your sleep style.

I'm not alone in my love for this pillow. Ellen Hoffman, Insider Reviews' former editor-in-chief, believes this pillow is "a really nice marriage of a regular down pillow and a memory foam pillow." And former senior reporter Connie Chen claimed in a previous review that this pillow "combines the best elements that everyone wants: simultaneously fluffy and firm, comfortable, and a breeze to maintain."
